Qi horse

Jackie Pelosi-Harris, B.Sc, RVT, CESMT is a California-based equine sports massage and medical Qi Gong practitioner. She began her journey  studying the healing art of Qi Gong through a traditional apprenticeship in Chinese Energy Medicine with Grand Master Hong Liu. During her 16 years of study and work with Master Hong, she treated both humans and animals, ultimately dedicating her practice to horses.

To deepen her expertise, she sought training from Jo-Ann Wilson, a four-time Olympic U.S. Eventing Team physiotherapist and a leading expert in the field of equine sports massage.  After completing Jo-Ann’s intensive training program in  equine sports massage, Jackie continued her education with advanced training and one-on-one mentorship in Ocala, FL.

In addition to her California-based practice, she serves as an assistant instructor for Jo-Ann’s bi-annual course in the Wilson Meagher Method of equine sports massage in Camden, Maine and is a trusted resource for West Coast referrals.  She is also pursuing a master’s degree in equine science at the University of Edinburgh’s College of Veterinary Studies.

Jackie’s practice encompasses all breeds and disciplines, caring for horses at every level, from international competitors to rescues. Her approach is deeply influenced by Ray Berta’s teachings in the California vaquero style of natural horsemanship.

Equine Care services

  • Equine Sports Massage

The foundation of this work is in improving the overall well-being and contentment of your horse through restoring complete ease of motion and freedom in the body. The most overlooked factor in diminished performance is simple muscle tightness. While all horses have the same muscular anatomy and physiology, specific muscle groups are emphasized differently in the various disciplines and levels. The Wilson Meagher Method™ of equine sports massage is a time-tested method that employs the application of an anatomically accurate series of soft tissue techniques to restore complete freedom and ease of movement in the equine body. This method identifies stress points in the muscle and then through its techniques, alleviates muscle restriction, tightness and pain. This work is specific to the cause of the muscular problem while treating the entire body.

  • Qi for horses

Medical Qi Gong works with the same meridians (energy lines) and points as acupuncture without needles, to enhance physical vitality and overall well-being. A deep level of understanding and healing can be achieved through this therapy. Medical Qi Gong is a specialized form of energy medicine that incorporates massage, healing foods and energy techniques to regulate the flow of energy in the body. The result of this work is direct communication with the energetic, physical, and emotional bodies of the horse. It is the oldest of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The goal of a qi treatment is to correct bio-energetic imbalances and restore the flow of energy through the body’s energy channels, cells, tissues, and organs. This strengthening of energy flow enhances the horse’s healing potential and increases physical vitality and mental and emotional balance. Qi also affects the muscles, skin and bones that are found along these energy pathways. Qi can be directed into specifIc areas of the horse’s body to support recovery from injury or illness as a potent adjunct to conventional veterinary care.

“She meets the horse where they are and knows how to free up physical restrictions. Jackie is a master at working with the deeper energy systems to bring the horse into balance”
